Summer Fun at La Playa of Catania

From the Port of Catania to the South entrance of the city, lies about 12 km (7.4 mi.) of golden sandy beach with shallow water ideal for children to swim and play. The “Viale Kennedy” at the Playa, is a long avenue by the coast with alternative bathing venues, many private beaches or “lidos” and free beaches. On all private beaches buying a daily ticket from 4 € to 10 €  at the entrance, even if you’re not a member, gives you access to a parking lot, changing rooms, showers, restaurants, bars, and even sports-facilities to play tennis, soccer, beach volleyball, and bocce. The majority of the beaches have swimming pools and water games.  You can lie in the sun drinking and relaxing while listening to the music being played by a DJs, or you can rent a beach umbrella and a sun bed by the water. The children can mingle at the mini club, leaving their parents some free time to play a sport or enjoy a ride on a pedal boat. The facilities are open from 8am until 8 pm. Sunset brings more excitement as some of these venues turn into “nightclubs under the stars.” African and American bars are illuminated with brilliant lights, setting the stage for dancing on the sand, where shoes are optional! After all, dancing barefoot on the sand is a “must” for summertime fun!  Amunì’s favorite is Playa International Tourist Village, providing activities and good times for all ages from morning to night. Buon Divertimento! Enjoy.

To Pantalica – First caves of the Mankind

Incredible but true! At Pantalica you will see over 5000 necropoles (which are old graves) naturally formed or dug out of limestone cliffs from approximately 70.000 years ago.

Visit the Palace of Anaktoron, a megalithic building dating back to the first age of Pantalica, believed to have been built between 11th – 13th Century BC. Here the vegetation is vibrant and luxurious, with many nature trails and abundant wildlife. You have to enter dark tunnels to reach the small oasis of natural stones and water (ponds formed from waterfalls) anddense green forests – remember to bring a battery torchlight with you. It’s best to stay on the designated track, but follow the signs along the trails.

The Reserve of Pantalica can be explored only on foot, so wear comfortable shoes and a swimsuit if you want to swim in the lakes.

Bill Gates visited once and fell in love with this reserve.

Please remember that cars are not allowed to help preserve the area. Pantalica is in Sortino – Ferla, in the province of Siracusa.
